A law firm is only as good as the people who work there. Please read on to learn more about the attorneys at Medler & Roither.

Jeffrey P. Medler, Partner

The cornerstone member of the firm, Jeffrey has represented clients in countless cases related to civil litigation, criminal defense, business litigation, commercial litigation, domestic litigation (including dissolution of marriage, paternity, child support and orders of protection), personal injury, and workers’ compensation throughout the region. In 2004, Jeffrey was named Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year by the St. Louis County Bar Association and boasts an AV Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, which identifies lawyers with very high to preeminent legal ability – a true reflection of his expertise, experience, integrity and overall professional excellence. This commitment to integrity is perhaps best reflected, however, in his community service activities outside of the firm, where he sits on the Board of Governors of Heritage House, a local organization dedicated to providing safe exchanges of children in high conflict relationships, and as a Board Member for Catholic Legal Assistance Ministry, providing legal services for indigent individuals of all religious denominations in many areas of law. Jeffery holds a B.A. from Boston College and a J.D. from the St. Louis University School of Law. He is a certified Guardian ad Litem, and a Member in good standing of the American Bar Association, the Missouri and Illinois Bars, and the Federal Bar for the Eastern District of Missouri.

David A. Roither, Partner

As a partner, David brings special skills to bear in the firm’s dynamic domestic practice. One of the most commonly appointed attorneys to act as Guardian ad Litem for children in the Circuit Courts of St. Louis County, St. Louis City, and in addition, St. Charles and Franklin County, David brings a wealth of experience to protecting the interests of minors, including conducting Continuing Legal Education seminars and workshops on the topic for other Missouri attorneys. Moreover, David champions the rights of underprivileged families outside of the courtroom, as well, by acting as a standing Member of the Board of Legal Advocates for Abused Women and a Friend of Heritage House, a local organization dedicated to providing safe exchanges of children in high conflict relationships. Other areas of expertise include criminal defense, workers’ compensation and personal injury. David holds a B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and a J.D. from the St. Louis University School of Law. David was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1999, and is also licensed to practice in the U.S District Court of Eastern Missouri.

Stephen B Evans, Of Counsel

Stephen brings to the firm extensive first chair jury trial experience in courts of all jurisdictions throughout Missouri and Illinois, having served clients in all aspects of litigation – from pre-suit counsel, through mediation, arbitration and trial of the case. Although primarily dedicated to protecting the rights of seriously injured victims and family members who have lost loved ones due to negligent, intentional or reckless behavior, Stephen also represents clients in business and tort litigation, commercial leasing, franchise disputes and attorney general investigations. He holds a B.A. from Columbia College, in Illinois, and a J.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is licensed to practice in both Missouri and Illinois, and in the U.S District Court of Eastern Missouri

Nevada M. Smith, Associate

A bright, new addition to the firm, Nevada is actively involved in all major areas of practice, particularly family law, and general civil and commercial litigation. He boasts a sterling academic background, having graduated Summa Cum Laude in International Business and Magna Cum Laude in International Studies from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He holds a J.D. from the St. Louis University School of Law. Bar association memberships include the ABA, the Missouri Bar, BAMSL and the Federal Courts of the Eastern District of Missouri. Nevada is also fluent in French.

Thomas J. Karsten, Associate

After several years focusing primarily on transactional law, with the Mergers & Acquisitions practice group of international giant Baker & McKenzie (Sao Paulo, Brazil office), Thomas recently rejoined the firm to dedicate his efforts to an area of the law with a more human face – family law — to which he applies his extensive studies in the financial analysis of marital estates. Thomas holds a B.A. from Rice University, and a J.D. from the St. Louis University School of Law, and is a member of the Missouri Bar. He is also fluent in Portuguese, and has studied Spanish, French and Latin.
